Warnings to the world’s largest investment banks and their mortgage origination partners, as well as to major commercial lending operations engaged in massive mortgage originations were not only ignored, they were openly ridiculed.

The collapses of Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, IndyMac and their mortgage origination arms were not unlike the failures of Enron and Worldcom, and the prosecutions of individuals from Credit Suisse, Tyco, and many others: they were all preventable. They did not have to happen.
